So, What Are Hemorrhoids
Many people with them are asking "what are hemorrhoids?" Well, hemorrhoids (piles) are basically enlarged, irritated, or inflamed blood vessels (veins) in the lowest rectal region. Your most typical symptoms of hemorrhoids are usually bleeding from your rectum, getting blisters back there, incredibly severe pain and itchiness.
Now hemorrhoids can be either internal (where they are situated on the inside of the rectum) or external (either protruding from or on the outside of your anus). To top it off you may have both kinds of hemorrhoids at the same freakin' time!
These are some common symptoms of hemorrhoid:
1. Rectal irritation
2. Bleeding from the Rectum
3. Bulges in the skin from the rectum
4. Trouble Leaking of stools
On the upside, bleeding from the rectum generally isn't painful. And, this is a pretty common symptom of having piles, or, hemorrhoids. You may notice after moving your bowels that there's bright red blood on the toilet paper when you wipe. It's not a whole lot. Just smudges. But any amount of blood can raise the "red flags" as it were.
In fewer cases there may be a lot more blood and this can be serious if it continues and doesn't stop. You will want to get medical attention if it continues. This can lead to anemia, cause extreme weakness and exhaustion, just to name a few.
Piles symptoms can also include irritation and itching of your skin around your anal area. Itching can be caused by any number of several factors, including but not limited to the following:
1. With internal hemorrhoids you can have a dripping of stool from out the back because they can stop the sphincter muscles from closing all the way. This can lead to embarrasing odors and itching.
2. The double whammy comes from when you wipe too much to get clean. This can also lead to drying of the tissues and itching and irritation.
3. Individuals with external hemorrhoids can develop minimal protrusion of the skin, commonly known as skin tags. These can often be not easy to keep clean, causing itchiness.
4. Inflammation of hemorrhoids can cause severe irritation.
On the other hand, pain may develop in persons who have thrombosis or coagulated blood within the hemorrhoid. This can happen within either external or internal hemorrhoids. Clotted external hemorrhoids are of color plum bulge. When the skin around the rectal area becomes swollen, severe pain can be experienced.
Coagulated internal hemorrhoids may also cause pain, even though commonly less extreme. Hardly ever, if the blood circulation to an internal hemorrhoid is reduced, the hemorrhoid can become asphyxiated. Asphyxiation can result to severe pain, and the lessened blood flow can cause gangrene, wherein the affected skin is dead. This can be a fatal complication and needs urgent surgical treatment.
You are most likely to get Hemorrhoids if:
1. You have to strain during your bowel movements
2. You are chronically constipated.
3. Your job or lifestyle involves a whole lot of sitting.
4. You are older
5. You are pregnant
6. You have a tumor of the pelvis
To determine the real cause of hemorrhoids, your doctor or clinician will test your rectum and anus, and may insert a gloved tube or finger into the anus.
